Deep Learning Initiative 2016-17

Dear Wooster Families,

As we continue to build a continuum of skills, dispositions and knowledge which weaves through our three divisions, one of our goals has been to establish courses in the Upper School which are designed to challenge our students to apply these burgeoning skills and think more deeply about the big ideas and concepts which make up our academic disciplines. These courses will also be our best test of college academic readiness. I’m very excited to share the product of our teachers’ work toward this goal in the form of the Deep Learning Initiative (DLI). As you will see when you read the below treatise, starting next year, Wooster will be offering several exciting options for students who want to go deeper with their thinking, reading, writing, and problem-solving. When you read about what our teachers have planned, and see the response that we have gotten from colleges about the DLI, I think you’ll be excited as well.
