Three Eye-Opening Documentaries on Netflix
Posted 01/17/2020 03:24PM

These are documentaries that I found on Netflix and thought they would be very interesting. After watching them, I can say that my first impressions of all of these are true. These documentaries are interesting and they made me think about things other than the documentary itself. I recommend watching all of these even if you think they wouldn't be interesting to you.

  1. The Pixar Story

88 mins

This documentary was very interesting. With the release of Disney+, I watched all of the Toy Story movies. It was a great reminder of what a great kid's movie is and it was very enjoyable to rewatch these Pixar classics. As I watched The Pixar Story, I learned many things about the people behind this amazing company as they tell their story of success. Two very interesting things I found out were Steve Jobs was a part of Pixar and the first Toy Story was Pixar's first ever feature animation using computers. This was not only about the story of their dreams but how computers and technology made and broke their company. "Art challenges the technology and technology inspires the art."

  1. Minimalism

78 mins

This documentary was very eye-opening. It talked about the importance of less, and how with the more stuff we get, the less connection we have with others, our world, and most importantly, ourselves. As a society we believe the more we have the happier we will be; this documentary is trying to prove that assumption wrong. "Everyone is looking for more meaning in their lives," not everyone knows how they can truly be happy. "..We are confused about what is going to make us happy." These statements made me question my relationship with stuff. It is a strange thing to think about, the idea that we have relationships with inanimate things, but it's true. This embraces the idea of less stuff for more happiness. It was inspiring and made me question things. It is a great one to watch just to think a little, it doesn't mean we all have to jump into minimalism. We all need to be more aware of our decisions and what will genuinely make us happy.

  1. The Creative Brain Image result for creativity

52 mins

  • This documentary was short but inspiring. The documentary focused on different ways of creativity and how we can challenge ourselves to be creative. It not only talked about how to be creative but the overall importance of it as well. They had vastly different examples of creativity that somehow all connected back to each other. Creativity was shown used in schools, prisons, music, art, and science. Creativity doesn't just show up in "art." They even subtly challenged the idea of what art is. Our brains' crave creativity but it's challenging for the brain to try new things. That's why it is so important to do just that. We need to try something new, push boundaries, and don't be afraid of failure. Here's an inspiring quote to leave off with, "Failure is your friend that you can learn from."

All these have been very inspiring to me and I would love to share the inspiration. Tune in next week for three more!
