Big news hit the Wooster hockey team this week. Assistant Coach Anthony Lobianco was promoted to and named the new head coach of the team, taking over for former Head Coach Rob Sutherland. Coach Lobianco, or Lobo, for short joined the team last and has formed a tight bond with many of the boys. Overall the team was very happy to get back to playing their game and continue their season.
On Monday the team trekked up to Cromwall, CT to play Kingswood Oxford. The game was a battle in the first period. The boys did a great job of implementing the new forecheck and backcheck in the offensive and defensive zones.
The game was very physical. Sophomore Marcus Dupree was electric to watch, and did a great job breaking out of the zone while also getting very physical on the boards. Freshman Antonio Felidi had a great goal early on in the first. Later that period, junior Max Thaler had a beautiful bar down goal off a rebound.
The second period might have been the best period of hockey the team has played all year. Everything was going smoothly, but one minor break down in the defensive zone cost the team a goal. Late in the period the boys made quick work of a 3v2 and freshman Indy Wright buried a rebound goal to make the score 3-3 at the end of the second.
The third period was relapse for the team. KO scored a quick one early on a 2v0 making the score 4-3, then a bit later, a pass across the middle took a bad bounce and slipped into the net. The team battled to come back from that, but spirits were down and the team was unable to do it. The game ended with a score 7-3. The team is hungry for revenge and can't wait for the rematch Saturday night @ Danbury ice arena. Puck drops at 6:20pm.
Until then, enjoy this video of the team having some fun both on and off the ice. Thanks to Trip and Marcus for capturing these moments.
