Sports Update: House Basketball
Posted 01/17/2020 03:11PM

This past Wednesday House Basketball has their first home game of the season against St. Luke's school. We started off the game not playing our best basketball, but we relentlessly kept trying our hardest. Unfortunately we had the size disadvantage so it was really hard to defend in the paint and pass the ball inside.

At the half we were down by a lot and most other teams probably would've given up and not played their best. But after Coach Sacco told us how we could improve at the half, we were motivated to keep trying. The third quarter went much better for us. We scored about as many points as we did in the previous half. Additionally, as a team, we were moving more and not settling for contested shots and three pointers. Our team was more coordinated and we were able to have players be in the right places on defense, and we improved our offensive strategies as well. We also did a better job of grabbing more rebounds, which was something we struggled with in the first half. Even though they out rebounded us in the third quarter, it was by a much less margin than the first half.

The fourth quarter for the team was the best by far. I do not know this for certain but I believe we may have outscored them in the fourth quarter. It wasn't just one guy either. Everyone on the court was taking good shots. Some of the people who made shots in the late third quarter and fourth quarter were Hughes who scored a three pointer, Marcos who had a contested layup, Chris swished a mid range jumper, and Patrick and Robert both made challenging shots as well. Kyle had a nice block and Griffith also had a block and a lot of rebounds as well.

Even though we lost the game by a large margin and it would have been nice to win, we clearly had more fun than the other team. During practice the next day, our team had a conversation about our game, and even though we had lost, we were all still happy with the outcome of the game. There is a wide variety of skill levels on the house team, but everyone tried their hardest and we scored more points than expected. For any students considering joining house basketball next winter, our team highly encourages people of any skill level to do so. In the end being on House is about improving your basketball skills and it is clear that we not only got better as individuals, but as a team.

2019-20 House Basketball Roster: Kyle, Marcos, Hughes, Cole E, Ben Yu, Anthony, Gavin, Henry, Griffith, Logan, Ryan, Chris, Kevin, Nick, Rob, Ben Ye, Patrick, Matt, Ricky, Jackson, Sam, Eiffel, Cole B, Addison, Jonah, and Eric.
