How Covid will effect Ski season for 2020-2021
By: Colin Fortson
Skiing this season will be interesting. Due to the virus, many ski mountains had to close for the rest of last ski season. But for this season many of those closed mountains have come up with a plan to make money and keep people who visit safe and happy.
One of the things that the mountains had to plan for was how were people going to properly distance themselves on the mountain. This was difficult because of the mobility going up the mountain. The problem with this is if they were to send up a person single on a chairlift there will start being lines and that could be potentially dangerous for skiers not distancing themselves. The solution for this problem was that they are going to limit how many people will be on the mountain. They will also send families up together on chairlifts to prevent blockage at the bottom of the lifts.
Another problem is money. For ski resorts to stay afloat they have to rake in the cash pretty much all year around. Due to less people skiing this year many more ski resorts could go bankrupt. The way this is going to be fixed is day passes are going to be more expensive and season passes prices will be lowered and just in case if you bought a season pass and you did not go skiing this year, you can use that season pass for the next ski season.
