How Actors Film During the Pandemic

How are actors filming on set during a pandemic?

As the global pandemic rages on, there are still shows being filmed and directed, such as the popular Stranger Things 4. According to The Atlantic, "there's an intense amount of collaboration... Actors, musicians, writers and other creatives are using Facebook, Instagram, Zoom conferencing, and other electronic methods to build creative communities online." Since it's risky for many actors to do table readings, they interact more by zoom conferencing.

To film the show, they do need to be on set, however, they take extreme safety measures such as wearing masks between scenes, during breaks, after filming, disinfect items and clothing, and making sure they're being sanitary. In an article written by Rebecca Rubin (featured on the Variety) actors also get tested every time they film.

Filming, in general, hasn't necessarily stopped, instead just had a small pause and several major changes. According to film director James Derbyshire, "Social distancing is the hardest part because the nature of filmmaking is so collaborative... It's quite difficult to speak to someone at two meters." In conclusion, thankfully actors and those who work with film-making are still giving us fun entertainment while doing it safely.
