Help make an impact! I'm excited to have been nominated to be part of the Go Red for Women Teen of Impact for the Greater NYC area for this year's campaign. As part of this year's class of changemakers, I've brought together a team that's working to make the greatest impact possible on women's health. We will be raising much-needed funds for the American Heart Association and working to improve the health of our communities. I really hope to get some people from the Wooster community to help me out.
In 2004, Go Red For Women was born as a campaign to raise awareness among women about their great health threat — heart disease. Slowly, the campaign grew into a movement bringing together thousands of women. Our team is focused on preventing heart disease and stroke. My goals for this campaign are to promote healthy lifestyles, build awareness and raise critically needed funds to support research and education initiatives. Cardiovascular diseases, which include heart disease and stroke, claim the life of a woman about every 80 seconds.
In my freshmen (and first) year here at Wooster, my father had a heart attack. Today, he is doing well, but I didn't understand how common heart disease is, especially for women who have it in their families as I do. I'm doing this to help spread awareness and to prevent the same thing that happened to my father from happening to others. This is such an important cause to me and so many others. So if you would like to help contribute, the link is down below. Also, stay tuned for events that I will hopefully get to host in the future at Wooster, such as CPR training, Healthy Life information sessions, and other great stuff! The campaign ends June 21st, so please help me reach my goal!
