First Jobs

By Colin Fortson

These bring fear to many people, Satan starts to tremble and cry just out of hearing those two unspeakable words. First Jobs. (I know, terrifying right).

We all remember our first jobs and how that being in the nether regions would be ten times better than at work. I would know that because I recently just quit my first job (but I have a new one). I worked at a grocery store and experienced all the stereotypical things about a first job. Lazy co-workers, mean bosses, not enough pay, and rude customers. Even after those things I would rate my first job experience a 8/10. I say this because it was the best out of the worst. But how do other people rate their first jobs?

My mother: Newspaper delivery girl

Rating: 6/10

My father: Ladies clothing store

Rating: 7.5/10

Ms.Thaler: Video Rental store

Rating: 8/10

Ms. Marino: Ingenuity store

Rating: 5/10

Mrs. Coleman

Rating: Cook at Plains Jane's restaurant in Bethel

Rating: 9/10

Mr. Hutchins: K-mart worker

Rating: 9.5/10

Dr. Taraz: DayCare Center

Rating: 7/10

Ms. Gilson: Bakery worker

Rating: 9/10

Mr. Swallen: Umpiring Little League Baseball in Fairfield CT

Rating: 9/10

Mr. Priedemann: Summer Camp Counselor for Kindergartners

Rating: 9/10

Ms. Smith: Popey's ice cream shop

Rating: 8/10

Even though I give first jobs a lot of hate, I still do think it's an important experience to teens to teach them more about the real world and learn the perspective of a minimum wage worker so they are not yelling at a 16-year-old cashier about some random thing. (I know all first jobs are not just minimum wage jobs)

Even though my first job had its challenges, I will always remember it as an important life lesson.
