Color Run 5K at Immaculate school

On Sunday, May 23, my sister and I participated in a 5K color run which was hosted at Immaculate High School. The weather was extremely hot and I wasn't mentally prepared to run over 3 miles. Once we got there we saw people from plenty of different schools. We checked in and got a drawstring bag containing a color run t-shirt, boxed water, sunglasses and a granola bar. Once the senior from Immaculate explained how a color run works, we were all given cups filled with different colored power. We huddled into a group and threw the cups releasing the colored powder into the air. The airhorn went off and we started the 5K.

As my sister and I started running with other girls from her track team at Barlow, I just realized what I was getting myself into. We had to run one big mile loop three times. The loop was hilly all the way around which made the 5K a lot harder to run. My original goal was to keep a steady pace and run the whole thing however I quickly realized that wasn't realistic. As a group we all walked up the hills and ran down them. We also ran on the flat parts. Throughout the whole loop there were stations of people with colored power who would dump it on everyone as we'd run by. The sunglasses were given to us to protect our eyes from the colored powder being thrown on us. Throughout the whole 5K, we were all changing different colors from blue to purple to green to yellow.

After the first two laps I was exhausted and wanted to walk the rest of the way. My sister and her friends supported me the whole time, encouraging me to keep running. I pushed myself and ran the last mile loop. Towards the end my sister picked up her pace and sprinted to the end. I did the exact opposite, having to slow down because I became nauseous and didn't want to throw up. When I crossed the finish line there was a group of people cheering me on. I felt so proud of myself and was happy I accomplished the 5K. After everyone finished, all the schools got together to take a group photo. It was so cool to see everyone covered head to toe in different colors. This experience was empowering and very fun, I would recommend a color run to anyone who enjoys a challenge.
