by: Anica Diaz

As I'm sure you all know by now, with the seniors off working on their SIS projects, the Juniors have recently taken up new, important roles in our community. This week at WINK, I decided to interview a couple of Juniors about how they're feeling about their new leadership roles!

Anneliese DeRosaire:

What is your title for next year?

I'm in the EJC, I believe team 9, as a team member

What does your title mean?

I help Grayce Amos and Kaylie Singhal manage sophomores and freshmen in the student commons, bridge room, and the Grover basement. We help to keep everything clean, all that good stuff.

How has the transition gone from watching the seniors manage their area to doing it yourself?

The transition has been really good. The seniors were really helpful in the transition, they weren't ever absent, and were really helpful in telling us what needs to get done and future plans, because we don't just want to clean the areas, we want to improve them too.

Do you have any hopes or worries?

In terms of hopes, we have the student commons, so we want to make that definitely more of a space all grades can use, so we're going to try and put some games in there. There's a really nice room in the Grover basement that we're hoping to make the physical EJC center, those are definitely hopes that we want to break ground on. And then in terms of worries, I just hope that the team members want to improve the areas as much as I do, I just want them to show up and be present and all that stuff.

Henry Rexford:

What is your title for next year?

I'm one of the senior prefects.

What does your title mean?

SI overview all the different job areas, make sure everyone is doing what they need, and I also organize meetings and plan activities.

How has the transition gone from watching the seniors manage their area to doing it yourself?

The transition has gone pretty smoothly. Robert and Lillie really helped out with that.

Do you have any hopes or worries?

I'm just worried that I'm not going to get everything done, but I hope that the community can come together more because covid kind of brought us apart.

Matt Hoekenga:

What is your title for next year?

I'm the student activities prefect.

What does your title mean?

That means that I run Wellington and second and third floor Grover.

How has the transition gone from watching the seniors manage their area to doing it yourself?

The transition has been going pretty smoothly. I think me and Deanna have a lot of similar qualities, so I think it was a pretty smooth transition between the two of us.

Do you have any hopes or worries?

I definitely have a lot of worries because I have to plan a lot of events next year and hope they all run smoothly, but my hope would be that they do.

Sadie Drahzal:

What is your title for next year?

I'm a student activities team member.

What does your title mean?

Basically, I just help assist anything with activities, so in the job area and potential activity ideas for next year.

How has the transition gone from watching the seniors manage their area to doing it yourself?

I've actually been involved in student activities previously, so I feel like the transition for me was pretty easy, also I get to hang out with Matt, and Matt's the best, so that's fun.

Do you have any hopes or worries?

I'm just excited to see where activities takes me and what we can come up with next year.

Even though I'm not a senior yet and I don't have hands-on experience as a leader in jobs, I can say with confidence that the Junior class has done a great job of acclimating to their new roles so far! I can't wait to see where they go next year and see how we as a community can continue to support them.
