WiNK Athletes of the Week

by Jack Zahner & Zayden Williams

WiNK Male Athlete of the Week

Cole Gomulinski

Cole Gomulinski has been indispensable for the boys basketball team since the break. He played a key role in the winning streak that they had kept since the new year until a tough loss in Dobbs Ferry against a great opponent in Masters. With bigs Eian Cushnie and Jack Zahner ruled out, Cole had to step up and he did in a big way. His force is felt in the paint, snagging rebounds effortlessly two-ways down the court. Cole is a brick wall on defense as well, punching multiple shots off the glass from opponents. Cole breaks out fast for outlet passes, pushing the ball up the court moving the offense and keeping it well-oiled. He had 7 points against Masters and double digit rebounds, tallying a couple of blocks and assists to his stat line. Cole can also hit it from deep, he hit threes against Williams and Masters, he's a great one two punch with the big sharp shooter Matt Amarante. Cole has been a name to circle for opposing teams and should be for GFA, as they take on the Dragons in Westport at 5:45 on Saturday.

WiNK Female Athlete of the Week

Ava Cilento

Ava has been the unsung hero in the recent success of the girls basketball team, always giving it all for the team. She plays scrappy defense and intelligent offense. On defense, it seems like knows where her assignment wants to go before they do. And on offense, her skills and court vision space the floor opening up opportunities for her teammates. Her defensive assignment most of the time is the opponents top scorer, she faceguards intensely and pokes at the ball, making the guards uncomfortable. After all that, she is a great teammate, playing an important role in three sports here at Wooster, she is a fierce competitor and most definitely future captain in all of her sports. You can see how much she loves sports just by watching her play, she wants to win above everything. Show up to support the girls tomorrow as they head to Westover and hope to bounce back.
