Game Week 20 in Premier League

by: Chris Lopes & Max Rainville

This past weekend in the Premier League, there were two notable games, both derbies. The first game played was Manchester City vs. Manchester United, a famous rivalry for many reasons, and this fixture always produces thrilling results. The second derby played was Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal, another famous derby. Chris and I (Max) will recap both games and provide in-depth summaries.

The first game played in Game Week 20 was Manchester City vs. Manchester United. Both of these teams needed a win and were trying to catch first place Arsenal, who are 8 points clear at the top of the table. The game started off quickly; both teams came out with intensity and tried to score the opening goal. Manchester City kept most of the possession in the first half and controlled the game's tempo. The first half ended 0-0, and both teams knew they needed a goal first to control the game. Manchester City broke the deadlock first, as Kevin De Bruyne chipped a cross to the back post, and Jack Grealish headed the ball past David De Gea to put City up 1-0. In the 78th minute, Casemiro played a brilliant through ball to Marcus Rashford, but it eventually fell to Bruno Fernandes, who expertly dispatched the ball into the back of the net. United were hungry for more, however, as less than three minutes later, Alejandro Garnacho drilled the ball across the 18-yard box, and Marcus Rashford tapped the ball in to win the game for Manchester United. This was United's 9th win in a row, as they look to make a title charge in the coming weeks.

The North London derby between the Tottenham Hotspurs and the Arsenal Gunners was a thrilling match. Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris conceded an accidental own-goal in the 14th minute, giving Arsenal a 1-0 lead. After that, the game went back and forth, with Tottenham having 51% possession and Arsenal with 49% possession of the ball. Martin Odegard would go on to score Arsenal's second goal in the 36th minute solidifying their 2-0 win against Tottenham. After the match, Arsenal goalie Aaron Ramsdale went behind his net to grab his water bottle and was kicked by a fan in the stands. The police and Tottenham are investigating the incident, and the fan has been banned from their stadium.

This past weekend was nothing short of entertaining. There were derbies, fans being banned from stadiums, and the battle for points as teams tried to catch up to Arsenal for the title. Arsenal has solidified their first-place position in the league with an eight-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.
