Keeping Up With... Chris Komar, '22

by: Jonah Wald

After graduating from Wooster in the Class of '22, Chris Komar is attending the NYU Tisch School of Arts. Chris has always been interested in music production, and was featured in WiNK last year. He has worked with famous artists such as rappers Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD. He has made a number of projects, including a full length album that he did for his Senior Independent Study Project. He usually focuses on making trap and cloud rap style beats, but has stretched his style across numerous genres.

Being in NYC, one of the largest hubs for music and art, Chris has had the opportunity to make connections in the music industry and grow his network. He is also attending one of the most prestigious universities for art, and has access to tons of state of the art equipment and gifted teachers. When asked about how his NYU experience is going, Chris said, "It's been great so far and I'm loving the city." Chris hopes that NYU will build new bridges for him and further enhance his skillset.

Chris's recent endeavor is an alternative-pop project. Chris is working to explore new sounds and expand his creative comfort zone as a producer. His current project taps into the use of sounds and musical elements he has not previously explored. He has been utilizing instruments in unorthodox ways, such as using a vocal run through a distorted guitar amp to emulate the sound of a guitar solo. He is doing a lot of experimenting in other aspects of music production, and is absorbing new techniques and skills through his studies at NYU.
