Inauguration Day will look very different this year than it has in the past

On Wednesday, January 20, President-Elect Joe Biden will become the next President of the United States. There will still be an inauguration, although we are in a pandemic. Many factors have impacted this year's inaugural, and there are many questions that have been raised about the safety of the event.

Although there are safety concerns, especially because of last week's attempted coup and terrorist attack on the Capitol, there is still a glimmer of optimism about Inauguration Day. There is a virtual parade, and authorities will be on high alert during the in-person festivities. In all 50 states, there are reported plans by Trump supporters to riot during the days prior to the inauguration.

President-Elect Biden claims he isn't worried, however, but there's definitely a reason to be. The violence in which the far-right has unleashed, fueled by President Trump, has created a state of fear and worry for many, including myself. The Secret Service has vowed to heighten security, and hopefully, they keep their promise. President Trump will not be attending the inauguration; unsurprisingly acting childish once again (in my opinion).

Although the inauguration may seem like a day in which the country can attempt to restore its values; it really can't happen that quickly. Trump and his supporters will be seething from a distance, and social justice issues will always be looming, due to the United States being what I feel is a country built on imperialism, racism, and injustice. I am hoping that the day will have some peace however, and it will hopefully not be violent.
