COVID Memorial Commemorates Lives Lost

On Tuesday the 19th of January, a memorial was observed by Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris. This memorial was to honor and commemorate the lives lost due to COVID-19. Joe Biden addressed a grieving nation and spoke highly of all of the medical professionals and workers who have dedicated their lives to helping people, but who probably never expected 2020 to be the year it was. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, the event had to be live-streamed for everyone to see. 400,000 American lives lost, and for that reason, 400 lights were turned on in their honor. Lights were lit up surrounding the reflective pool. Several other major monuments have shown support in this memorial: the Empire State building, California State Capitol, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, etc. Vice President Kamala Harris added her sympathy as well, saying, "For many months, we have grieved by ourselves. Tonight, we grieve and begin healing together. Though we may be physically separated, we the American people are united in spirit." The beautiful lives that were taken from us will not be forgotten. They will forever be in our hearts.
