World Languages - Middle School

In 6th grade, students take both Latin and Spanish. 7th graders choose between continuing to study Spanish or Latin. That choice also determines the language they study in 8th grade. Successful completion of the 8th grade course enables a student to place into the second year of the language in the Upper School.

Please note that under normal conditions, if a student passes, progress to the next level of the language is automatic. However, a grade of “2” or a poor performance on the final exam may indicate a weak foundation that may impede progress and success at the next level. Therefore, at year’s end, the Department will evaluate appropriate placement for the following school year for students earning such grades.
