Wooster School's Daniel Michael Named 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist
Posted 02/28/2018 03:05PM

Wooster senior, Daniel Michael, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

Daniel was originally one of 1.6 million high school entrants into the national program. Students became eligible for the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors in fall 2016. Students were notified they were named semifinalists in September. Semifinalists had to submit records of their grades and courses as well as notification of where they intend to go to college and a personal essay.

Now, Daniel is among 15,000 students who are eligible for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships awards worth more than $32 million in college scholarships.

"We're all very happy that Daniel is being recognized for his achievements, not just as a scholar and budding scientist, but as an athlete, artist, actor, journalist, and all-around contributor to the Wooster community," remarked Matt Byrnes, Head of School. "We are very proud of him and consider ourselves lucky to have had the opportunity to collaborate with him on his learning over these many years."

Final scholarship award winners are selected after review of the finalists' academic record, test scores, written recommendation, student activities and leadership, and submitted final essays. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in May.
