Wooster School Community Gathers to Commemorate 9/11
Posted 09/11/2019 11:24AM

This morning at 9:45 am, the Wooster Middle and Upper School communities paid tribute to the first responders and victims of September 11, 2001.

Gathered by the campus flag pole, Head of School Matt Byrnes remarked, "The lesson for today is that ideology, when devoid of compassion and humanity, leads to violence, misery, and the suffering of innocent people. We are still seeing this in the world and we are seeing it in our own country. We have to do better. You all have that responsibility now and in the future -- to do better than, perhaps, our generation has done." He then read the poem, "The Names," by Billy Collins, to honor the memory of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

The service concluded as Claire Simard, Coordinator of Performing Arts, led the gathering in the singing of "Michael Row the Boat Ashore."
