Wooster School's 97th Convocation
Posted 09/13/2022 03:35PM

On Friday, September 9, 2022, the official start to Wooster School's 97th year began. As is our tradition, we came together as a community for Convocation, and this year on Coburn Lawn.

Head of School, Matt Byrnes, welcomed the community and then introduced Henry Rexford, Senior Prefect, who led everyone in the school prayer. Continuing in a time honored tradition, Senior Prefect, Cara Costigan, led everyone in the reciting of the School Honor Code. Tradition continued as we celebrated Crayons to Commencement. Students who began their Wooster School careers in the Lower School, and are now seniors, were recognized. The seven seniors were each presented with a box of crayons, symbolic of their early days on the campus of Wooster School.

The students recognized were: Eian Cushnie, Presley Damiano, Ryan Doyle, Sadie Drahzal, Christian Kim, Henry Rexford, and Yabi Segalla.

Mr. Byrnes then shared some remarks with the community, "We are all here in this school together because we are on learning journeys – together – which we hope will help us to better manage the challenges and difficulties in life in ways that lead to fulfillment, insight, strong relationships, trust, – and maybe even enlightenment about a few things." He added, "We are committing to being on this journey together. Ultimately, what the Honor Code asks is for us to trust in ourselves, and to extend that trust to others. If we do that, we are all sincerely trying to be better. We'll have a great year."

Convocation concluded with a musical presentation of the song "Here Comes the Sun" which was performed by Upper School musicians, singers, and faculty members.
